Description

Workers who work with or near wildlife and insects need to be aware of zoonotic diseases. These are diseases that are transmitted between animals and people, such as Lyme disease, West Nile virus, and rabies.

This course covers occupations at risk of exposure, the diseases that can be contracted from ticks, mosquitoes, and various wildlife species, and control measures that can protect workers from becoming ill. Information on reporting zoonotic diseases is also included in the course.

Topics include:

  • Wildlife zoonotic diseases
  • Working with or near animals with the potential for physical aggression
  • Reporting zoonotic diseases

Upon completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Identify some of the risks associated with working around wildlife and insects
  • Define control measures used when working around wildlife and insects
  • Recognize the signs and symptoms of zoonotic diseases
  • Know how to work safely around wildlife and insects
