Description

As a supervisor in Canada, it is your job to plan and organize work so that it can be done safely. You also play a role in controlling or eliminating hazards. Supervisors monitor work, remind workers to work safely, show them how to work safely and enforce policies and procedures when necessary. In this course, you will learn about your health and safety duties as a supervisor at the workplace. You will also learn that each jurisdiction has their own Acts or regulations, and how to recognize and address hazards to keep your workers safe.

Topics include:

  • Health and safety responsibilities as a supervisor
  • Working together with employees to prevent injuries and illness
  • Identifying different types of workplace hazards
  • Managing hazards using the RACE model: Recognize hazards, Assess risks, Control hazards and Evaluate the effectiveness of controls

Upon completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Describe the internal responsibility system (IRS) and the responsibilities of the employer, supervisor and worker
  • Recognize the role of the supervisor in upholding workers’ three basic rights
  • Identify common workplace hazards
  • Describe the basic steps in preventing and controlling workplace hazards

Average time to complete this course is approximately one hour.

This course is for supervisors in Canada to learn about their health and safety responsibilities under the Acts or regulations in their jurisdiction.
