2015 Health and Safety Scholarship Winners Announced

May 6, 2015 – Hamilton, ON – Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS)

The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) announced the winners of the 2015 Dick Martin Scholarship Award. This annual award, open to students in occupational health and safety programs at Canadian universities and colleges, was established to encourage interest in the field of workplace health and safety.

The two recipients, Florence Janvier (Quebec) and Genevieve Fox (British Columbia) will each be awarded $3000. In addition, their respective academic institutions, the University of Montreal and the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), will each receive $500.

A major part of the evaluation criteria for the award is based on essays written by the applicants. Genevieve Fox’s essay on violence prevention, and Florence Janvier’s essay on risk assessments on bisphenol A (BPA), both presented an interesting perspective and a thorough understanding of their chosen subject matter.

Scholarship winners are announced during North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week (May 3-9, 2015) to focus the attention of working Canadians, workplace safety and health partners, the general public and students who have chosen occupational health and safety as a profession, on the importance of preventing injury and illness in the workplace, at home and in the community.
