Keyin College Student Presented With National Scholarship

Dick Martin Scholarship awarded to occupational health, safety student

May 2, 2016 – Grand Falls-Windsor, NL – Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS)


Keyin College’ Occupational Health and Safety student, Harry Wiseman, is the recipient of the 2016 Dick Martin Scholarship Award, funded by the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS).  Valued at $3000, the scholarship is one of two awarded nationally to students enrolled in an occupational health and safety course or program in an accredited Canadian college or university, leading to an occupational health and safety certificate, diploma or degree. 

Leslie Galway, Chief Executive Officer of WorkplaceNL (the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission) and member of CCOHS’ Council of Governors will present Wiseman with his award at Keyin College’ Grand Falls-Windsor campus on May 4, 2016. Keyin College President Ralph Tucker and, W.j. Hanlon, College Principal will also be on hand at the presentation.

  • Awarded annually, this $3000 national scholarship is available to any student enrolled, either full-time or part-time, in an occupational health and safety related course or program leading to an occupational health and safety certificate, diploma or degree at an accredited college or university in Canada. Programs include mine safety, occupational or industrial health and safety, industrial hygiene, safety management or other related safety degree program.
  • The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) is Canada's national resource for the advancement of workplace health and safety. CCOHS promotes the total well-being – physical, psychosocial, and mental health – of working people in Canada.
  • CCOHS’ Council of Governors established the Dick Martin Scholarship Award fund in 2002 in the memory of Dick Martin, a past Governor on the CCOHS Council and a pioneer of workplace health and safety in Canada.
