The Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) provides a comprehensive standard for the classification of chemical hazards and communication of information on labels and safety data sheets (SDSs). With the recent U.S. deadline of the OSHA HazCom 2012 standard coming up in December 2013, Canadian workplaces are beginning to transition from WHMIS to GHS. GHS implementation will have significant impacts on manufacturers and suppliers of chemical products and, subsequently, on employers and users of chemical products. As Senior Technical Specialist at CCOHS, Jan Chappel will share resources and tools that are available to help workplaces meet the challenges presented by the implementation of GHS.
